A mailed notice from Theriault's regarding the upcoming auction of Candy Spelling's Collection reads:

When Aaron and Candy Spelling built their famed 125 room 56,500 square foot French-style chateau in the Holmsby Hills area of Los Angeles in 1988, it was aptly decorated with the finest collections of European antiques, furnishings, chandeliers, and wonderful objects from the world of dolls, automata and childhood. This year, the splendid Spelling chateau was sold, and now, on Saturday and Sunday, November 19 and 20, their magnificent collection of dolls and automata will come to auction in the splendid Louis XVI rooms at the historic Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York.
In addition to Spelling's dolls and automata, this two-day auction will feature dolls from other private estates including Jeanne Dailey of Milford Center, Ohio, the Käthe Kruse dolls of a private collector from the Netherlands, and two private collections of rare Lenci dolls.

Read more about these two separate auctions (Many Wonderful Things and To the Manor Born) and view some of the dolls from these impressive collections here.

  1. Cough, cough, cough. Sorry I was choking on some of those prices. I may have to send some of my elite dolls to represent.

  2. Yeah, those beginning bids are up there. It will be interesting to see the price they realize, if they sell.
